Andrea Nixon

Real songs torn from the pages of real life

Andrea Nixon is ready to let loose her apron strings and hit the road running. Her debut album, Diary of a Housewife, which she co-wrote and recorded independently as a complete unknown, is turning heads and solidifying her place in Canada's music scene. This album leaves no stone unturned, exploring the landscape of heartache, angst, joy and humour with eyes wide open and heart in hand.

With a distinct style, layering croon, twang and quiver atop real stories, Andrea has been called the lovechild of Florence Welsh (Florence and the Machine) and the Rankin sisters though her sound defies comparison. It is quite simply her own.

Her latest foray into the world of radio takes the form of her third single, Song Without a Name. It is a toe tapping country ditty sung with a wink. It doesn't seem to take itself too seriously until you lean in and uncover the hidden rallying call to just get on with it and find the courage to be exactly who you are.

Andrea was recently nominated for an Edmonton Music Award as an Artist to Watch and she's prepared for her moment to shine. She is driven by a passion, purpose and vision all her own and bolstered by her amazing team. A sensitive scrapper- introspective yet tough- she tends to exceed expectations with a work ethic second to none.

Currently a Top 12 Finalist in the Project Wild Artist Development Program, a partnership between Alberta Music and Calgary's Peak 95.3 aimed at launching the careers of Alberta's next generation of country stars, Andrea is eager to learn all she can. With the support of her fans and the input of industry experts, she is expanding her audience and developing her skill set. Her ultimate goal is to spend her life connecting to others in that magical space found only under the cover of a song.

“Singer-songwriter Andrea Nixon has opened up her soul to give voice to a unique point of view rarely heard from in modern music... Influenced by Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and other strong women, the energetic Edmontonian used her own experiences as a wife and mom to craft emotional and intimate lyrics for her debut album, Diary of a Housewife.”
